Why Write The Book

Updated: Jul 28, 2022

There was never anything in my mind that ever said I wanted to write a book. I have always

been one who loves reading, and I was the girl who wrote in diaries and journals but to officially write a book; that was never the case.

For those that know me, I’m sure they looked at my life like I had it all together. Young, black,

successful female. College graduate who is working in her career. I’m living on my own and taking care of everything. Life is great and at some point, that is how I truly felt. Through the good, life had a way of showing me what I buried deep down to avoid dealing with certain mental barriers.

In my life, there were sooo many instances that broke me down; not growing in career, failed relationships and engagements, illnesses and surgeries, and I had to do the work to build me back up. It's even harder when you've had very little confidence growing up in the first place. Being picked on for being skinny, big forehead, and lips, and not being a part of the crowd. I was pressured to be like those around me. "Your cousins are doing so well in school, Your cousins got accepted to this school, This person is getting married, This person is pregnant." Every comment felt like a comparison or a blueprint on how I should move or act.

At some point, I had to do what I wanted to do for myself. I did the work; it helped, and now I feel like I must share this success with everyone else. What did I do? Pray, pray, pray! Journaling and reaching out to my family and friends for support. I want to pass the light to someone else so that they can shine bright in their own world.

You can create the life you can't stop thinking about as soon as you live for you and be confident that you can get yourself there. This shows growth, progression, and strength.
